- Matthew 5:44-48
Main Theme:
Jesus’ triumphal entry demonstrates his humility, kingship, and worthiness of praise, calling believers to surrender their burdens, offer their lives in service, and recognize his present-day relevance.
Key Points:
God has need of thee: Just as Jesus sent disciples for the donkey, God has a purpose for every believer today. He calls us to be disciples, transformed by the Spirit and Word, dedicated to Christ’s cause.
Give your burdens to the Lord: The donkey, a symbol of service and suffering, represents giving our burdens to Christ. We must trust Him to handle our challenges and allow Him to “sit on” our worries and anxieties.
What do you have to lay down for Christ?: The crowd laying down branches and garments represents the sacrifices we should make for Jesus. He desires not just partial commitment (like giving up something for Lent), but complete surrender of our lives.
Jesus is worthy of our praise and worship: The crowd’s shouts of “Hosanna” signify the need for salvation and praise. Jesus came meekly, not as a conquering king, but as a savior. We should recognize Him as Lord and offer Him our praise.
Conclusion:
Elder Wells concludes by emphasizing the varied reactions to Jesus’ entry, highlighting the joy of those who recognized him as the Messiah. He challenges the congregation to consider their personal relationship with Christ, asking, “Who do you say the Lord is?” He reminds them of Jesus’ resurrection power and promises his return as a conquering king.
