Alright, that’s the music for In the Word Podcast. This is episode 251 and it’s In the Word Podcast with Will and Marie, and I’m Will. Oh okay, I got out of order there a little bit. It’s all good.
So we’re just excited because we’re studying the word of God and our church is doing a through-the-Bible reading of God’s word, and that’s exciting too. I’m in the book of Exodus and been great. I’ve been loving it a lot. I still have ten more in Genesis before I get there, but yeah, I’m determined. Yeah, be determined.
First Timothy six, which I thought we would introduce today. And because Timothy also talks about that same subject. He says, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” That’s First Timothy six twelve. So we fight the good fight of faith every day.
What do you think about that? Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life where you’re also called to it and profess a good profession before many witnesses. When I think about it, you know, like I was saying to someone that fighting, no, the good fight is salvation, is, you know, living for Jesus, is defeating the enemy, it’s all of those things. So we know that that’s what it is.
And so fighting and making it, you know, where it says, “Fight the good fight of faith,” it just is telling us that we have to put in some effort to actually go f strong in the Lord. We can’t get lazy or lax a days ago, because the enemy, like you were saying few days ago, the enemy is always roaring around trying to, you know, going about trying to des devour us.
So we have to, we can’t just, you know, think it’s gonna go well with us just because we have to put in some effort. And there are scriptures that you know, speak of that where we have to put in that effort. And there’s a choice we have to make too. You know, we can’t just think that God is gonna do everything. God has provided us with the tools to be s successful, you know, or whatever. But or but they have, but we have to still choose. We, there comes times when we have to make a choice.
And we have to make a choice based on being disciplined. We have to make a choice based on being obedient. We have to make a choice because we want to do always those things that are pleasing in his sight. I love what the writer of the Hebrew says in Hebrews twelve one and two, he says, “Let us run with patience.” This is basically echoing what you said. “Let us run with patience the race looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him” in at the cross, as Hebrews twelve and one and two.
So we have to run, just like you were saying, we have to run this race. We have to run it with patience. We have to run it with determination. We have to run it with endurance. And I think that we run it by having ourselves properly equipped and well-armed and protected, you know. Yeah. Ephesians six tells us, you know, the whole armor of God, you all familiar with the passage, the breastplated righteousness, the shoes, the preparation, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the property one that we know the most is a sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.
Right, don’t even let it take root, ’cause I think a lot of times we’ll think about things, you know, and just let it marinate in our head, our minds, or whatever, and not and just leave it there. But as but if you leave it there, the enemy is gonna be in there more and more and more throwing these punches to get you to go just, you know, get it deeper, you know, and it could be all a myriad of ways that he draws you, draws us in. But we have to be on guard, we have to be on guard for all kind, whatever his devices, we need to discover what his devices and be looking for them. And the Bible says them to Corinthians, “Therefore we are not ignorant of his devices.” We are not to be ignorant for sure, but we are, I think a lot of us sometimes we are caught unaware, we are caught off guard. But but Jesus tells us in his word that we watch and pray, you know. So be on guard, we should be looking for the enemy to try to do something, like a roaring lion seeking who may devour, Peter tells us.
And Lord, we just thank you for this time together, we thank you for the privilege of being able to share your word and learn your word. Lord, help us most importantly to live your word, and we just thank you for this time together. Bless us to be warriors, bless us to be great fighters, bless us to be pleased in your sight as we successfully defend the faith and do those things that you want us to do there according to your will. We give you the honor and praise, in Jesus’ name we pray, amen. God bless you, we’ll see you next time on In the Word Podcast with Will and Marie. Amen.
