Topic: Confronting Complacent Christianity – feeling of calm satisfaction with your own abilities or situation that prevents you from trying harder.
- Last Sunday: Confronting Comfortable Christianity – No challenges, no growth, no desire to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus. Satisfied with status quo.
Two reasons we should pray continually and stay alert spiritually:
a. The Lord asks us to do it.
Mark 14:37-38 (NLT) 37 Then he returned and found the disciples asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? 38Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
b. To keep from giving into temptation.
Luke 22:40;46 (NLT) 40There he told them, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.” 46“Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.”
Romans 13:11 – 14 (NLT)
11 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.
13 Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.
14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
