Jesus Owns It All
“God hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:2)
The book of Hebrews exalts the Lord Jesus’ ownership of all things, including us.
First, all things are destined to become the Lord Jesus’ inheritance. Second, He created it all. Of course, He did not create it independently of His Father or His Spirit. Working together, for example, they said, “Let us make man in our image” (Genesis 1:26). The New Testament reiterates Jesus’ creative activity. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible” (Colossians 1:16).
The writer of Hebrews continues, “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3). Thus, the Lord Jesus also has full rights over all creation because He sustains it continually. The moment His powerful word ceases to uphold them, all things would cease.
Jesus owns it all because He redeemed it through His selfless sacrifice. He did all the work necessary to buy His cosmos back, as though He did not already own it by right of inheritance, creation, and sustaining power. Moreover, His purging of our sins on the cross was so perfectly complete that the Lord is sitting down—for now.
Why Cain’s offering apparently wasn’t accepted by God:
1 John 3:12 (evil) Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. Genesis 4:3 (bloodless, disobedient) In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the
soil as an offering to the LORD .
Jude 1:11 (error, “strange fire”) They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.
Leviticus 10:1 – 3 (NASB)
1 Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them.
2 And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.
3 Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what the LORD spoke, saying,
‘By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored.’”
So Aaron, therefore, kept silent.
Why Abel’s and our worship will be accepted by God:
Righteous
“You will be accepted if you do what is right” (Gen. 4:7, NLT).
Matthew 23:35 –And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
By faith
“By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did” (Hebrews 11:4). Ever since the beginning, people must come to God in faith. “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (11:6)
Through his Spirit John 4:23 – 24 (NASB)
23“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
According to His Word
John 4:24 (NASB) 24“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”(with our whole heart according to His Word)
Monday Morning Moment: “We MUST worship Him in spirit and in truth.”
