Sermon Handout
Luke 10:38 – 42 (NASB) 38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.
40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” (NOTE: Never assume your own greatness- 1 Kings 19:9 – 18)
41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; (NOTE: Support others in their special roles – 1 Cor. 12:20-22)
42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (NOTE: Ask Jesus first; then get to work – Psalm 139:23-24)
Adjust your priorities
Sometimes even Christian duties and demands rob us of our peace. Doing the Lord’s work should never distract us from reflecting on Jesus’ teaching. (Spending time at His feet) Are you so busy working for him that you have no time to sit and listen at his feet? Jesus wants faithful service, but even more he desires that you relax, set aside worries and urgent responsibilities, and come to him with a heart to worship. Adjust your priorities. Take time to meditate on Jesus’ goodness to you every day!!
Mary of Bethany is seen three times in the Gospel record, and on each occasion, she is in the same place: at the feet of Jesus.
- She sat at His feet and listened to His Word (Luke 10:39)
 - She fell at His feet and shared her woes (John 11:32)
 - She came to His feet and poured out her worship (John 12:3).

Walking Points:
- Listening, learning & living God’s Word = “the good part”
 - Many things are nice, but only one thing is “necessary” (needed)
 - When sitting at the feet of Jesus, we become the “best” servant we can be.
