Teaching about Salt
Matthew 5:13 – 14 (NLT)
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
A few things that “salt” can do:
- it preserves food
- it purifies sacrifices (Lev 2:13)
- it flavors
- it creates thirst
Teaching about Light
Matthew 5:15 – 16 (NLT)
15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
1 John 2:9-11 (NLT)
9 If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is still living in darkness. 10Anyone who loves another brother or sister is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. 11But anyone who hates another brother or sister is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
A few things that “light” can do:
- Eyeglasses can correct vision because light changes speed when it passes from air to a glass or plastic lens; this causes the rays to bend.
- Light illuminates; light is an energy source.
- Divides into colors, travels very fast.
