Sermon Handout
- Joshua 3:5
- Joshua 5:2–3
- Joshua 5:8
Before God brought down Jericho’s wall, He first prepared His people spiritually; then He taught them to keep obeying by faith even when nothing seemed to be changing.
Walking Points:
God prepares His people spiritually before He gives them victory publicly
Joshua 3:5 (KJV) “And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”
• Sanctification came before the wonder. God renewed covenant identity before battle.
Joshua 5:2–3;8 (KJV)“Atthat time the Lord said unto Joshua…circumcise again the children of
Israel the secondtime…”And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.”
Worship came before warfare. (2 Chron. 20:22)
Our trust in Him must keep us obeying even when nothing seems to be changing
Joshua 6:3 (KJV) “And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city
once. Thus, shalt thou do six days.”
• God’s command did not make natural sense.
Joshua 6:10 (KJV) “And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice…”
• They had to obey in silence.
Joshua 6:11, 14 (KJV)“Sothe ark of the Lord compassed the city, going about it once… so they did six days.”
• They kept walking while the wall was still standing.
Hebrews 11:30 (KJV)“Byfaith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.”
• Faith is not only the shout on day seven; faith is the obedience of days one through six. Joshua 6:20 (KJV)“Sothe people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets… the wall fell down flat…”
Monday Morning Moment:
Before God changes our situation outside, He often works on our behavior inside!
