Series: You Don’t Look Like Your Picture

Luke 22:54 – 57 (NLT) 54So they arrested him and led him to the high priest’s home. (Annas’ complex) And Peter followed at a distance. 55The guards lit a fire (charcoals–Jn.18:18) in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there. 56A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. (KJV: earnestly looked) Finally she said, “This man was one of Jesus’ followers!”

Mark 14:68 (NLT) 68But Peter denied it.“Idon’t know what you’re talking about,” he said, and he went out into the entryway. Just then, a rooster crowed.

Matthew 26:71 – 72 (NLT) 71Later, out by the gate, another servant girl noticed him and said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”John 18:26 (NLT) 26But one of the household slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked,“Didn’tI see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus?”

72Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath.“Idon’t even know the man,” he said. (oath = I swear to God/As God is my witness -James 5:12–“donot swear…”)

Matthew 26:73 (NASB) 73A little later (about an hour–Lu. 22:59) the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Surely you too are one of them; for even the way you talk gives you away.”
71But he began to curse and swear,“Ido not know this man you are talking about!”

Luke 22:61 – 62 (NLT) 61At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered that the Lord had said, “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” 62And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.
