A Litmus Test for Salvation

Will Robinson

Probably the number one concern among new believers is “How can I be sure of my salvation”? The Bible provides two important questions an individual must answer to determine whether or not he or she is a true believer:

1. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God? (John 1:1-5, 14)
John 1:1- 5 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

2. Have you actually received the Holy Spirit? (Acts 19:2; 1 Cor. 12:3)
Acts 19:2a (NKJV)
2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

1 Cor. 12:3 (NKJV)
3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
